What is your top priority when working with a new radio station?
Getting results for the client. There are always many solutions to a problem. Finding the one that get the best results possible is critical.
What has changed about the way you program today from when you started consulting?
Integration. Today the digital elements are more easily combined. That means results for the advertiser. There'd are more tools at our proposal. It takes a plan to make them all work together.
What are the key things that broadcasters should be focusing on?
- Strategy. You need a plan to get where you Need to go.
- Sharing that plan with your team, be sure everyone knows the plan and is on the same page.
- Make sure your customers know your capabilities and how you can help them accomplish their goals.
What is the one thing that you're most proud of (to date) in your career as a broadcaster and consultant...and now as an expert in the digital world?
I was Mark Cuban's first customer for broadcast.com then Audionet. I was GM of KLIF the first commercial streaming station in the U. S.
What would you like to be known for as a broadcaster?
Innovation, the ability to take new tech and make them work for radio.
What would you like to be known for as a new media expert?
My ability to take complex challenges and find straight forward solutions that work and are cost effective
What advice would you share with a first time program director?
Be a student of radio understand all aspects of the "business" of the business.
What advice would you share with a first time iPD?
Bring "life" to your web site and other digital tools. Use those tools to create the feeling that there are " real people" behind the technology.
Anything that you'd like to add?
hese are are exciting times for the technologist. So many new toys and so many new opportunities. We can forget that this is about human connection and the best new toys help bring people together.
