Mike McVay is the President of the highly successful McVay Media, a program consultancy serving radio, TV, the Internet and digital media platforms. He is also President of McVay Syndication (a radio network syndicating several radio programs), is the partner of Listener Driven Radio (a New Media Platform) and Co-Founder of a digital consulting firm named McVay New Media. Mike serves as a consultant and advisor, talent coach, is a futurist and is recognized around the world as one of media’s most influential media strategists and consultants. He began his career at the age of 15 in 1969 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as an air personality, while completing his education. Mike served as a member of the faculty in 1990 at Princeton University for the Radio Only Conference. McVay Media presented Programming School for radio professionals annually from 1988 – 2005.
He has programmed radio stations in Wheeling, Charleston, Louisville, San Diego, Los Angeles, and Cleveland. He was a general manager in Mobile and Cleveland. Mike, along with his wife Doris, owned and operated radio stations in Naples and Key West, Florida … Honolulu, Hawaii and Flint, Michigan. McVay Media was founded as a part-time entity in 1979 and became his full-time avocation in 1984. The consultancy has served as many as 200 radio stations at one time. Clients have encompassed radio stations in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, The United Kingdom, Grand Cayman, Puerto Rico and Latin America.
He is the author of several broadcast primers, including “The Seven Habits of Highly Successful Radio Stations, Programming in a Multiopoly World, and The Mastery Action Plan. Mike McVay has written regular columns and guest articles for Radio & Records and FMQB magazines as well as has contributed to Radio Ink magazine. His resume includes many public-speaking engagements around the world. Mike averages two public speaking appearances per/month.
Mike was involved in the creation and launch of the highly rated nationally syndicated network program Delilah and he currently consults the much touted John Tesh Radio Show. He is partners with Donny Osmond in Donny’s daily radio program “The Donny Osmond Show.” His company consults Radio Stations, Artists/Singers, Syndicated Radio Programs and Networks, Television Programming, Authors and boasts a much publicized internet division named McVay New Media. The company has a New Business Development initiative that is developing new sales and programming products for advertisers. The New Business division of McVay Media is working with the legendary iconic artist Peter Max. They’ve also worked with the magazine Mental Floss and a cruise line named “iCruise.”
Among the recognition he has received in his career is nominations for Consultant of The Year from Billboard Magazine, and Radio & Records Magazine. Mike won the Ohio Media Leader of The Year Award, Broadcaster of the Year from The Cleveland Association of Broadcasters and Mike won the Radio Music Award for Broadcast Consultant of The Year during the 2007 Radio Music Awards (NBC-TV) in Las Vegas. For an unprecedented third year in a row he has been recognized as the Broadcast Executive of the Year (2006, 2007 and 2008) for Radio & Records magazine.
